Introduction and Interview by Melissa Kimble
What inspires you to create?
My love for music. Music is inspiring in itself. Music is my life.
The people around me, they keep me focused and motivated to become the best at what I do.
What is one of the biggest misconceptions about a female DJ and how do you get over that?
That female djs just want to look cute while djing and can’t really dj. I get over it by showing up and showing out while looking cute. I dj every event like its my last. I try to give people an experience when I dj. It’s one of those things where I just let my skills do the talking rather than just talking about it.
Not only are you doing what you love but you also have one of the hardest jobs in the world – being a mother. How do you balance both?
Its HELL lol! Naw its cool, I prioritize and plan to a tee. I have great people on my team such as my daughter God parents and her dad to help me when I go on my dj adventures. It’s almost like I’m 2 people though. DJ Mama T lol.
In the future I plan on getting very versatile with the type of genres that I dj. I love the pop culture and I cant wait till my debut in Vegas. After I retire from djing, I would want my E Hollywood story to say “DJ Jazzy T was one of the greatest entertainers as a DJ in the world”. I know that’s saying a lot but I believe anything is possible as long as I got God on my side. I have a long way to go before E tells that story but it has to be told.
The DJ is always at the forefront of new music. Who is DJ Jazzy T listening to these days and what are some artists we should be on the look out for?
Man I listen to all types of music, where do I start? Right now the main person that gets more play on my ipod hands down is Kendrick Lamar. He is a genius. Look out for Azelia Banks, Carly Rae Jepsen, Dom Kennedy, Bridget Kelly, Childish Gambino, and my homie Alexis Nicole.
